The hospitals are made up of two combined facilities, Mpilo Hospital and the Central Hospital. This is a large government tertiary hospital, subsidised by the Zimbabwean government. The hospital has a number of international staff.
The hospital has a reasonably well-equipped radiology department with facilities for ultrasound as well as x-rays. CT scanning is available in Mpilo. Departments include General medicine, General surgery, Emergency/Trauma Medicine, Infectious diseases, Obstetrics and gynaecology, Oncology, Radiology. Most basic blood investigations are available for half the working day. Urgent blood investigations have to be carried by Mpilo, the other UBH hospital. The hospital now also offers cancer screening routinely in the maternity section in addition to running HIV/AIDS testing centres and clinics.
All types of surgeons welcomed, especially if able to bring a teaching package.
Elective students welcome.
The hospital is located in Bulawayo, about 10 Km from the airport.
Accommodation is available near hospital.
Length of stay will largely depend on the visitor.

In common with many government facilities, the hospitals are always short of supplies. Bulawayo central hospital is COSECSA accredited for training in general surgery, urology, ENT and orthopaedic surgery.
