Government Regional Referral Hospital catering for 6 District Hospitals of Coast Region. This hospital is one of departments of Kibaha Education Centre (KEC). The hospital is located in Kibaha Town, about 40Km from Dar-es-Salaam.
Inpatient services include General Medicine, Surgery (General, paediatric and orthopaedic surgery), a 6-bed Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Neonatal care.
The hospital’s outpatient department attends to about 450 patients daily and comprises a 24-hour Casualty department and general clinics. There is also a Maternal and Child Health clinic and other specialty clinics in diabetes, paediatric surgery, orthopaedics, general surgery, tuberculosis, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dental and HIV/AIDS.
The hospital has a 2-unit operating theatre, physiotherapy unit, clinical support services (imaging, clinical laboratory).
Doctors in all medical specialties and elective students are welcome. For doctors who are interested in applying to work in Tumbi Hospital, a medical license from the Tanganyika Medical Council is required, which are valid for the year in which one applies. (ie if license is applied in June 2012, the validity lasts till December 2012) An application for work permit is also necessary. To minimise delays, it is advised to apply 4-6 months in advance.
The hospital is in a rural area an hour’s drive from Dar es Salaam along a major road to Morogoro, accessible by public transport.
Visiting doctors and medical students are housed in commercial guesthouses/hotels located within 5 minutes drive from the hospital in Kibaha town. Guesthouses are equipped with most basic amenities.

The hospital fees are kept low (cost-sharing), made possible by grants from Ministry of Health. The hospital supports community-based health care facilities in surrounding villages/towns. Tumbi Hospital has partnership with ICAP/THPS in HIV/AIDS care and treatment program in Coast Region as whole.
Tumbi Hospital is a training hospital for the clinical officers and undergraduate medical students from University of Dodoma (UDOM). There are also medical elective opportunities for medical students and overseas doctors to gain experience in the hospital. Clinical Meetings are held daily, in the mornings as part of Continuing Medical Education (CME).
