CECH was established in 2008. The hospital has a dual focus on paediatric orthopaedics and paediatric plastic reconstruction. The hospital treats disabilities such as cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, limb deformities, and other physical disabilities. The hospital provides free treatment to children and depends on charitable funding.
The hospital is comprised of a state-of-the-art 35- bed and 4 operating theatre complex that provides modern medical and surgical care to the physically disabled children of Ethiopia. In addition, CECH fills a critical need for an orthopaedic residency program in Ethiopia, providing training in paediatric and advanced orthopaedic techniques, and is an international COSECSA accredited training facility. The hospital brings modern, up-to-date standards and equipment including first world anaesthesia medications and monitoring, intra-operative fluoroscopy, and digital x-ray. A limited adult private practice provides care in general elective orthopaedics including joint replacement, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and fracture care. This provides financial support for the paediatric charity care in addition to advanced training for the Ethiopian residents.
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, General Orthopaedic Surgery (including joint reconstruction and sports medicine). Plastic Surgery for clefts. Anaesthesiology. Orthopaedic residents are accepted, as are medical students with an interest in surgery in their 3rd or 4th year of training.
