Black Lion is a very large referral hospital and sees approximately 370,000- 400,000 patients a year but the exact number is not known. The emergency department sees around 80,000 patients a year. The hospital have 800 beds, with 169 specialists, 65 non-teaching doctors. It got eight major operating theatre rooms. The hospital is the largest teaching hospital for Addis Ababa University, School of Medicine in Ethiopia.

Black Lion Specialized Hospital is affiliated with the Addis Ababa University’s School of Medicine. It is the training centre for fellows, postgraduate undergraduate, medical students, dentists, nurses, Radiographers and laboratory technicians. There are about 25 fellows, 500 Residents, 1396 medical students and 99 Interns.
