In the summer of 2014 I travelled to Blantyre for a month to gain some Physiotherapy experience in the Beit CURE Hospital, arranged with the help of Ruthie and her lovely team. It was an amazing experience, the hospital was one of the best ones in Malawi with lovely staff, incredible surgeons and thousands of people appreciating the work they do.

If you’re looking for an Orthopaedic Paediatric hospital with lots of hands-on practical experience, a lovely atmosphere and also in the heart of Malawi… Beit CURE is perfect! I had an incredible time there and would love to go back.

I spent my 3 week elective physiotherapy placement at Beit Cure International Hospital in Malawi and had an amazing time! Ben, the physio, supervised me during my time in the hospital where I worked with both adults and children. It was fascinating to see and work with many different orthopaedic conditions- some of which are not commonly seen in the UK and I have certainly not encountered. I also spent time in the clubfoot clinic which runs every week at CURE which was a great experience in its self. It is a great hospital and the staff are fantastic and they all could not have made me feel more welcome! I stayed in the guest house on site which was basic but more than enough for what I needed and here I met some amazing people who I hope to remain in touch with. I also had some time at the end to go to travel a bit around Malawi which included visiting the beautiful Lake Malawi! I could not recommend this hospital enough as a elective placement!!
